Again as stated above this is because 100% focus is not going into throwing cash at the first team. There is a long term plan in place that is bases around blooding new youth and brining them through.

So Widnes are not spending upto the £300k salary cap on your players?

7.3 Costs for those players under 21 who are eligible to play in the academy teams are to be
excluded from the Salary Cap Qualifying Costs. For the avoidance of doubt, this means
players need to be under 21 years of age on August 31st in the year prior to the Salary Cap
Year in question. However, there is no credit granted against Salary Cap Qualifying Cost for
U21 players loaned out to other clubs (see 6.4.2 above).
Thats from the RFL - so all the Academy lads wont count on the cap. Have Widnes been doing it on the cheap this year with their first team?

Well I for one will not be glad to see the back of them as they do bring a few fans.Although from what I hear it`s not certain Widnes will get promotion and as Widnes is ok with however the RFL pick there Sooper Dooper teams can`t see them moaning too much. So for me it should be Tolouse into Sooper Dooper so we fans don`t have to spend a fortune going over there to watch our team play rugby.Keep Widnes down so we get a few fans to the match relegate Cass `cos they will bring more fans than Wakey (sorry Cass fans but I`m being totally selfish here) Then let the Sooper Doopers have all the teams with no show fans, London (whatever their called this year) The so called Welsh team and the two french teams that will be ok for me.

Firstly - do you actually know what you have spent on your first team compared to other teams?
Secondly - isnt the nature of sport to create competitive teams on the pitch - isn't that why we go to watch. And if you are poor on the pitch you will have no chance of increasing your crowds (another criteria to meet). And this division is too competitive to be complacent and you could easlily risk relegation if your first team isnt strong enough.
And it would have been really interesting had Widnes not sneaked the NR cup last year.

| Well I think there is a chance that both Widnes and Toulouse will be put in. It makes sense to the RFL to have a local derby for Les Catalans. However they won't have met the criteria, so they will also have to put Widnes in. I think they will relegate either Wakefield or Cas and also Salford. With Salford knowing that once their stadium is up and running they will be the prime team to be re-elected into Super League. I'm afraid it's over really for any of the other teams like Fax, Leigh, Fev, Barrow et al as their faces just don't fit.
I would think Barrow have a chance but Des is too out spoken for the RFL. He doesn't sing from the hymn sheet along with the other chairman.
Once Salford's stadium is built, Super League will be increased to 15 teams and then the doors will be locked until a Scottish or Irish team is doing well in the Championship.
That's how I see it going long term anyway.

Widnes fans seem to think that if they hadnt won the Cup last year, this years team would be different. However, as they would still have to adhere to the salary cap of £300,000 or at a push £400,000 i dont see how much difference it would make. I would assume that they would be upto the cap with there current squad, as poor as it is.

| The cap is £300,000 with an absolute upper limit of 40% of £1m. It's there in black and white.
3. a club may exceptionally seek in writing a dispensation from the RFL to spend in excess of 40% and/or the above finite upper limit (to be known as the Club Agreed Salary Cap) subject to the following;
3(a) such a dispensation will not be granted unless the RSCM is in agreement that the club can afford to spend in excess of the finite upper limit and/or 40% of Salary Cap Relevant Income on player wages, having regard to the club’s financial history, the level of debts at the club, a liquidity assessment of the club and an assessment as to club’s overall club development strategy; and
3(b) an absolute upper limit of £400,000 (for a club in the Championship division) or £200,000 (for a club in Championship 1).

Nobody really knows what each club has spent on the first team.Be nice to know, but if Widnes have spent the same or more than Fax then we have recruited badly.

They do now but not sure they thought that way at start of season. I am quite sure many of them thought they would be up there, but like you say they have been poor (again). And despite the crowd issue yesterday, at ours have been going in the right direction. And thats down to getting a team on the pitch worth watching

This is a red Herring. Widnes may, or may not, be spending up to the cap. All it means is that Widnes have spent more on better quality, but fewer old pros and tried to give youth a chance by playing many more youngsters than the rest. Unfortunately it’s those few old pros whom have been crocked for most of the season.
If we hadn’t won the cup last season, Widnes would probably have gone down the same route as Halifax and Barrow and chocked it full of old pros, south sea islanders and Aussies.
So yes, it would have been a very different team. That kind of experience makes a difference in this league.

Some will, most probably won’t. We won’t be able to play as many of them in SL as we have in the Chp though. The aim would be to create the spine of the team from our academies, but this will take time. We’ve done it before and I’ve no doubt we can do it again.

Experienced SL players who are still young enough to have a possible future back in SL, may cost a little more.
