Why the hell should the BBC need to close a whole stand for their setup? I thought Sky only did it to force everyone into the South and East stands for effect.

It does sound like the North stand won't be available. I can't understand why they need to close the entire skircoat stand. It doesn't look good on us. Makes it look like we can't even manage to open 3 stands when cameras are there. And we'd be limiting capacity massively, also looking pretty bad

Would be the same situation with the camera gantry, although I'm surprised the Shay hasn't got a dedicated gantry already?

TV companies need to pull their finger out and think outside the box when filming at The Shay. What's so hard about sticking the main camera where the Club video goes and having interviews in a little hut in the bottom corner or something. If Halifax had 9,000 season ticket holder the Skircoat would be open and they'd have to do something then. If there's nothing wrong with the South, East and Skircoat then get fans in there and tell the TV lot to jog on.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but in previous years the RFL have had access to a cherry picker where they have filmed from in lieu of a proper gantry, though I don't know enough of the layout behind the Skircoat as to whether that's an option.

Would it not be possible to build a gantry on the grass banking near to the offices next to the stairs?

That would solve the issue of a matchday studio but not necessarily where they would use for the main camera angle during the game.

We have a main camera gantry that we use for FAX TV which is why I don't get the fuss.

Have you seen the size of the entourage for a live broadcast though?

The 'main camera angle' is just the one in the middle of the pitch and thus the one in the middle of the stand with the other angle ones down at pitch level.

You generally need other camera positions along the same side as well, not just for the TV coverage but for the video referee as well.

Think this is our 1 chance to show that we actually have a ground fit for super laegue and thatwe can hold big games at the shay. If there are any stands that are closed for this game. its turning the shay into a joke

I'm not even sure if we're disagreeing anymore tbh lol. All said and done, even your most tinpot of grounds (which the Shay isn't anyway) shouldn't HAVE to shut an entire stand down so the TV folk can stick some cameras up.

I was down at The Shay today collecting my Sheffield tickets and was told that (as someone mentioned earlier) the club were meeting with the BBC today to discuss siting of cameras etc. I was also told that the BBC would be told in no uncertain terms that the Skircoat Stand would be in use and that they could not have it!

So, assuming that the North Stand will not be available but the other 3 will, what does that make the capacity?

Considering that Cas's ground is allowed double that, the mind boggles.

It is something as a club that needs to be looked at. Sky hated the gantry at Widnes so we let them set up in North and have now built them a new one (with council too) Tv runs pro sport ATM so you have to aide them as much as possible. What happens when you want cup semi's yet have arguments over cameras? They'll go elsewhere. BBC always happy with Stobart hence having a few.

Leigh is meant to be great for TB crews etc... They get England Vs France! Worth thinking about.

Do they have dedicated areas for TV needs at Cas, Wakefield, Salford or Featherstone if they are selected for televised games, I think not

Not sure about Wakefield but Salford have a dedicated TV gantry above the main stand, Cas have one from the terrace down the side and don't Fev have a gantry hanging down from the roof of their main stand?

I think you will find it is more than one camera for the main postion. Its normally three and of course they are slighty bigger than the ones used for club dvd's

In total there should be about 15 cameras across the ground.

Do the close down a stand when televising from any of these grounds, I think not. TV facilities one one of the basic criteria set out by the RFL so they lied to you & the rest of us yesterday if you don't have this.

the north stand will be closed as the bbc building there box there,the Skircoat stand will be open, giving us room for 9,000 fans,all the north stand needs is some toilets putting up there then we could then have a 10,000 + fans in the ground
