Late try from Ambler after being 14-0 down. Other tries from Sharp and Johnston against what looks to have been a pretty strong Widnes line-up. That's all from the Twitter feed, not got any more I'm afraid.

No Grix, G.Moore, Divorty, A.Robinson, Bennion, Saxton, Potts, Greenwood, Martin, Tyrer today and even with 3 reserve lads sounds like we did very well and played some good stuff according to reports. 14-0 down at HT so to come back shows good charactor. Tangata, Moore and Manning had a very good game by all accounts as did Chester Butler. Heaton took a knock to the head early on and came off. Widnes missed 3 Conversions. Good solid start and even with half the first team squad missing matched a FT Super League team. We may not finish top, but I feel we will be in the top 4 again. All positives

Watched him against the miners at miners and couldn't believe he was playing ametuer rugby he looked the part!!

Plenty positives from today's performance and first few thoughts.

Fitness wise we matched them for the full 80 and if anything finished the stronger, which considering this was our first run out against a strong Widnes line up with a couple of games already under their belts is a good sign.

As a team no one had a bad game and none of the young lads looked out of place.

We looked a lot quicker in attack with Johnson and Robinson in the halves when Scotty went off and this cold be another dangerous combination to play against other sides especially in the second half when teams tire.

Individually
Sharp looked Sharp and will be a real handful.
Fairbanks made a telling contribution when he came.
Luke had a big second spell and Mitch got better in his.

Need to fix up the right side defence and our touch kicking but not bad for the first run out.

Just got back and what a relief to see some live rugby, involving Fax, for a change.
Faxcar's summary is a good one with the whole dynamics of the game changing when Sharp went to fullback and Johno into the halves. We did well to stay in the arm wrestle in the first half as Widnes looked dangerous with ball in hand and their defensive line speed was much quicker than ours which nullified our attacking options.
Our kicking game out of hand on last tackle plays needs work on.
Also gaining more yardage on penalty kicks to touch.
Ambler was on fire in both attack and defence.
Sharp was a revalation at both wing and fullback and on that performance we are not going to be seeing 12 tries as the leading try score tally this season as it was last season!

Crowd just over 1300 and it was blummin freezing!
I know it's early days but on that performance as a first hit up with 10 players missing we look to have a stronger squad and continuing from where we left off last season.
Still can't get my head around why the bookies think we are going to finish 7th!

A good run out for the lads and Widnes proving again they are your typical one man team. We mentioned before the game if we could be somewhere near them when they inevitably took Brown off then we could win. We will be a lot better this year for our strength in depth although I felt a bit sorry for Chester Butler because he ended up in the game a lot earlier than expected and his first few contributions was having Brown running at him and wreaking havoc. A very tough task on your first semi pro outing.

Our pack once again more than matched their Widnes counterparts and we will be very strong again especially with so much strength in depth. The young lad from Huddersfield had a very good game and looked a real handful. Sharp is quality and will have a field day in a good team. Calahane, Tangata, Ambler, and Fairbank were all standouts in the pack.

Its going to be a good season.

Edi: Probably should add Barber in there as well who very much fits in to the team. I still cant quite work out why Widnes fans thought it would be an easy win, without Brown they are very ordinary and will be in the bottom 2 for mine.

For me Sharp stuck out by a mile easy the best player on the pitch for fax today. Can see him been the leading try scorer this year

Scott needs to go to 13 we seemed a lot faster around the middle when he left the field.

Bad point been the opposite wing when heaton went off we conceded three trys down there this needs sorting out. I would personaly put saxton on that wing with heaton.

Smeaton did not see much of him to give a rating but can see tyrer taking is place.

All in all a good game and unlucky to not win in the last seconds

Good hit out and much needed as we only have this game for the main first team squad which I think is a bit risky we should have lined up 3 with 1 for the Reserves.
Widnes were as usual solid in defence and Brown was as good as ever, but we did well to get over their try line and scored a great second try.
To say they had a lot of first teamers in and we had a lot of young lads it was a good game.
