Brew, at a dinner this year featuring Karl Harrison, Mark Preston, Greg Austin and a few others, Karl said he was not paid by Batley. He said he coached them for "not a penny" (his words).

When asked if he would like to coach Halifax he replied "you already have a coach, but, at some time yes, but not for free"

If this is the case would we have to pay compensation?

I guess that would depend on whether or not he has a contract.

Also, if he'd been coaching Batley for "free", he's done it for a reason, and would he walk out on them at this point of the season?

We've had this debate on this forum before. I feel i must dispel this myth that Harrison does not get paid a penny for doing the Batley job. What tosh.
He gets a very generous part-time wage as do most coaches outside of SL, partly funded by our Squadbuilder association. I should know, some very good friends of mine are on the committee of that organisation. I suppose they were lying to members at this years AGM, and the one before that?

Also at the end of the day it is none of our buisness what Batley and Karl have agreed financially or anything else.

Why get so aggressive? no one is saying anyone is lying.

Agreed, however it was he who made the statement "I get not a penny from Batley"

If Karl does come I think it will be next season as he would not want to walk away at such short notice from Batley as it would undermine the tremendous job he has being doing on a shoe string budget but who knows, next week more will come out and it makes the rest of the season typically Fax like.

Whats the obsession with Karl.

Karl is a local favourite who has shown that he can coach a very good team,.on a small budget. Simples.......

But why would Harrison want to walk away from Batley after doing such a good job, the man has integrity..i personally cant see it happening, well not this season anyway.

Me neither. I fully expect bally to be in charge for the remainder of the season whatever tuesdays announcement brings.

I think many underestimate the draw this club has for Karl, he loves the place and IF he was to be appointed I'm sure he would relish working with this group of players. We will see won't we!!

Im not saying i wouldnt want Karl as our coach, i just dont think he will leave Batley until the end of the season seeing as he's gone a cracking job at mount pleasant and he may stay there next season pending on how Batley do in the playoffs.

Brilliant servant to the club as a player, speaks fondly of us in the media, used to work in Halifax before he played for us, has done a fantastic job at Batley, has great ideas and promotes local players and local talent, commands respect. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Karl Harrison.

Now... I know some will dream of SL with a high profile coach, but, if were to be in the Championship on stand by then i see no better man to galvanise the club and get local players busting a gut for Halifax RLFC.

Rhino will remain at Baltey until the end of the season and good luck to him and of course to Batley. We should be concentrating on what we have for now until the end of the season and then the club can actively look for a new coach, presumably Karl will be in the frame when that occurs.
