There are more people being murdered in Chicago every year by AMERICANS.
Over 3000 people were shot in Chicago last year.
Shootings and murders are so common in this city that most dont even make the news and Trump wants to ban Muslims.

All countries try to keep known criminals out and unless someone comes of a plane with weapons in their hand luggage, it's nigh on impossible to know who the next murderer is and bearing in mind that they can arm themselves within minutes of entering the States, does he really think this will make a difference.

It's more likely to make it easier to recruit jihadists as they can point to the fact that they are being persecuted.

The two matters are separate issues. Trump has already said he hopes to give hop back to the inner city poor and black citizens and stop the murders. As he rightly points out mainstream politicians have simply ignored these people and their situation.
As to more jihadists - if they aren't allowed to travel to the USA it's largely irrelevant to the USA whether there are 2 or 2 million of them.

All over the world, radical preachers will use Trump as a reason to join their fight and instead of eradicating the problem, the stance that he has taken against one particular religion will come back and bite him.
People are not born terrorists, they are converted and Trump should have said that he would stop everyone that was a threat (assuming they could be identified) rather than appearing to blame all Muslims.

Also telling that several of the potential countries that could have been included on his list but weren't, are ones in which he has significant business interests. (opinion - possibly fake news.)
