| Quote ="LF13"what version of android is the phone running? have you connected to Kies on PC to see if there is a software update available? the other option would be flashing an older version.
not sure if this is a possibility, but is it a network branded phone? if you have changed sim to a different network there may be some network-specific apps that are conflicting.'"
Is running Froyo.xxjpy, I haven't connected it to Kies as I ofund that piece of software to be the most annoying piece of junk that had ever seen the inside of my PC , but I'm willing to try anything.
Its an unlocked phone, my daughter had an O2 contract with it but its now running on my Virgin card - it had these same problems on O2 as well so possibly not network related.
Battery currently stands at 88% since about 10am this morning which is a vast improvement, its stating that most of this has been consumed by the display with a tiny percentage being the standby, which is as you'd expect. I've turned off wi-fi so basically its doing nothing at the moment but wait for incoming calls.

| Have you downloaded a battery monitor? I found GSam battery monitor a pretty good one with a decent log of what's using the battery. it's far better than the stock one anyway.

Mine does it every now and again. A full reboot fixes the problem, so my guess is it's the charger circuit or software going wonky.

| Certainly seems to be stable on the new OS, its currently showing 17 hours remaining on the battery which was last charge at 8pm last night, have just switched on Wi-Fi which gave a couple of errors from bits of software that I'd not enabled comms to but so far so good, no lockups or freezes at the moment, like most people all I want from a smartphone is to ALWAYS be ready to accept a call, text or email - the internet and apps stuff is just icing on the cake and not absolutely necessary but when it buggers up the main functions then its ready to be drop-kicked down the garden.

I work on a technical helpline supporting field engineers, you're right, you can't use non-specific words like that, "its fooked mate" is the normal catch-all terminology that we use.

| By the way, my phone is behaving perfectly today.
Apart from the fact that I can't get any of the Google services on it including Market.
Which is a bit of a bummer.
LATE EDIT : hold the front page, phony Google account gets me in
Now : SD card not recognised

| Another question ...
Could do with a tablet PC for the house, it has to boot up immediately (thats the big complaint with the ancient PC that serves the house now) and will be used for casual browsing/doing the banking etc using the house wi-fi, doesn't need 3/4G, will probably be used for watching on demand TV too and then various downloadable "angry birds" type games.
A 7" screen is fine, HD not absolutely necessary but I'm looking at either sub £100 or may go to £150 if the features make it worthwhile.
Someone at our office showed me their Blackberry Playbook the other day which is currently on a price-slash, or I've been looking at a Kindle Fire and a couple of sub £100 unknown brand android devices.
Any thoughts on the BB or a specific alternative ?

Might not be your cup of tea but someone (and I dont mean me!) bought my 6 year old son a Ainol Elf II tablet. From what i've seen of it so far it's really good and has all the feature you mentioned.

Playbook is a great machine let down by a hopeless OS, Samsung Galaxy 7" are a good price as is the Google Nexus both at the higher end of your price list. The Kindle Fire is a decent machine too, a little too tied to Amazon for my liking though.
Ainol do some great machines at the cheaper end but buy from a UK based seller.

| Having some trouble with the usb player on my tv.
It can handle pretty much most thing's, but lately I've watched 2 things in an mp4 format, and they play fine up until around the last quarter, then both videos have just stopped playing and sends me back to the menu. I can't play past the point where they stop and even when fast forwarding past where the playback stopped it just shows the same split second where playback stopped before then goes back to the menu.
The files work fine on my pc so don't think bad files are the issue.
It's an LG tv btw if that means anything.

Maybe it's just me not knowing what I'm looking for, but I really don't 'get' plasma. A bloke I work with tells me they're unbeatable, but I look and think the picture looks a bit dark and generally not that smooth. I was in Selfridges last night (God knows why, it's a horrible place), so I decided I'd try comparing a few of the TVs they have on show. All of the LED/LCD TVs they had out looked far better than the plasmas on show. When you went right up close, the detail looked much clearer, the edges seemed smoother and the colours were brighter and seemed more natural. I imagine if I was to go home and read a review on the TVs, the plasmas would probably win the review as they always do, but I really don't see why. As I said, maybe it's because I'm not an experienced eye, but I don't get the plasma love-in.

| Plasmas are better for the 47"+ TVs.
The latest LG range of LED Smart TVs have a great picture, we have one (42"icon_wink.gif and bar the sound (which all thin TVs have problems with now) it's a top notch TV.

We've got a 47" 3D (Not Smart though) LG. The only problem I have is the poor quality sound but if you're connected to a surround sound system it will be fine.
