Early guilty pleas can be rewarded. Huhne's will not be, I suspect, as it wasn't early, and followed several attempts to have the case thrown out completely. The CPS are rightly going to ask for costs

The position is generally 1/3 off for an early guilty plea at the first reasonable opportunity. It then goes on a sliding scale. For example, 1/4 after a trial date is set.

You can still get 10% at the door of the court or after a trial has commenced. Which is possibly what Huhne will get.

I doubt he will get much credit. But it should be just enough to stop him from getting a more severe sentence than his wife, as was suggested.

Got off light, he definitely deserved a few years doing what he did from a position of power to vote on laws that the rest of us have to obey.

So effectively he gets 7 months, will serve 50% of that and then will probably be out even earlier on a tag. I doubt he'll do much more than 6 weeks, after his time in court and attending police bail and interviews. She won't be too far behind.

Given the way he drew the whole thing out instead of a discount I think he should have paid a premium!

His attempts to get off seem to me far worse than what she did and as such I think she can feel slightly aggrieved at being given the same sentence as him. Pleading guilty at the 11th hour should have got him very little credit at all. Maybe a month off [iis[/i small credit but if so 9 months wasn't long enough in the first place IMO.
