| Quote ="wire-quin"How will over taxing large companies encourage large companies to come to the Uk in the future??
Take a look at Ireland and the number of large tech and pharma companies over there.'"
As a "one off" tax, which will be on excess profits (which they hadn't budgeted for), it should have little effect on future investment.
Alternatively, those companies could of course, share these monies between their directors and shareholders and an "exceptional" dividend.
Ordinarily, I agree, there is no sense in making a "grab" at company profits, as it would change how they go about their business.
However, these are exceptional circumstances and a few of the big boys are making "super" profits as a direct result of the situation in Ukraine and in these circumstances, it's just ridiculous for those companies to have such huge profits and for the rest of the population to suffer.
There's one hell of a storm brewing and when people really cannot afford to heat their homes but, see the "fat cats" getting fatter, there will be some civil unrest.
This isn't a huge problem over the summer but, in the winter months, with the price cap being lifted by around £1000 per household, on top of the recent £900 increase, people are going to be pretty angry.
After all, the average man on the street has done nothing to bring this increase upon themselves and their wages aren't rising at anywhere near current levels of inflation, especially in the public sector.
Mr Sunak is certainly going to be tested.

I’m not sure if he did or didn’t, Boris like lots of MPs are very cute with their use of words.
The Government body for crime in the UK have completed their investigation costing hundreds of thousands. Who really cares what a civil servant concludes.
Let’s move on.

| The Police did find him guilty of being at a party therefore his many statements refuting it went on would clearly indicate he lied. The eagerness of some to move on suggests they know this to be the case but would rather not have to dwell on the fact they support a pathological liar.
We could move onto the pandemic report and the many failings of the de Pfeffel party which resulted in unnecessary deaths.

The eagerness to move on has nothing to do with the above more that we have pressing issues as a country and we seem to be wasting a huge amount of time and effort on a few drinks. It’s holding us back.

There's an easy, cost-free (for all but one member of our population) solution to that problem that I feel is staring us in the face.
He's a wrong 'un, whose done wrong and [ihe[/i should move on. What does that cost us? There are currently 359 Conservative MPs. Even if we assume 90% are too inexperienced or too old or too stupid or too bigoted or too handsy or too centrist or too right wing, that would still leave more than 30 who could potentially do a passable job as PM... which we know Boris Johnson will struggle with, now even more than before. All the effort has only been required because he didn't do what anybody with any decency would have done months ago. He's the one holding us up, and even on his own terms he is the only one to benefit. Well, aside from a few of his most useless cabinet appointees but again that is at the country's expense.

| No giving contracts to their friends through a VIP channel is corruption. To lie to Parliament that he did not have a drink at a party because one did not exist and then receive a fine for attending said party then that is a resigning matter based on the rules set down.
I am sorry but you cannot defend what many of his own party can no longer defend.

Well, he's either too stupid to know what HIS own rules are or, he was happy to break his own rules anyway.
Pints dont equal corruption but, a lying PM most certainly does and Boris wouldn't recognise the truth is it slapped him around the face.

Do you really believe what you posted ?
It's been interesting to see that the PM feels that he had to say "thank you" to his staff at the numerous parties / gatherings and yet, never once did he feel that those gatherings were wrong or inappropriate.
Which other employers / businesses were still having such gatherings during lockdown.
As their "boss", he should have been unplugging the sound system and telling them to leave the premises and having strong words with those who organised the weekly events.

Wasn’t Grays report complete when the Met started their investigation hence the delay.
What an over promoted damp squib the Gray report turned out to be. How much time and money has been wasted by a journalist driven campaign to get at Boris.

Finally after years, labour put forward a policy (thats been adopted) and didn’t Starmer flog it during PMQs this week. He’s so far of the pace to lead a Government it’s embarrassing. Labour should focus on bringing in a leader who resonates with the population rather than chasing Boris out the door.

It was Johnson that banged on and on about waiting for it to buy time. It says exactly what everybody knew it would say, because what’d happened had been obvious months earlier, from Stratton’s recorded nervous laugh onwards.
He’s a twunt of national negative utility, a cancer on our public life, a global embarrassment, a fraud and an unrepentant, exuberant, probably pathological liar. Given that he is Prime Minister, I think it is good that this as widely known as possible.
The Conservative Party is now the Party of Johnson, they have decided. In a couple of years people will get the chance to decide, everyone knowing what he is, whether we should be the Country of Johnson. The journalists and Sue Gray mean that nobody can be in any doubt about what that choice is and what that decision would entail, so I think whatever has been spent was worth it.

Starmer could be forgiven for being "off the pace" (although I dont agree with your analogy), after all, he's only leader of the opposition.
However, your man (Johnson) and his side kick Sunak have waited MONTHS to take meaningful action over the cost of living crisis, MONTHS and even now, their solution is but, as sticking plaster.
What is most increddible is that Johnson said in Parliament that he "accepted full responsibility" for the goings on in No 10 during lockdown.
Given that there were 100+ fines (with some "parties" not even investigated), then, surely, he has to resign.
By not doing so, he clearly isn't "taking responsibility", unless, of course, he feels that he is above the law and that the illegal gatherings dont matter.

Resignation (which is what Labour call for repeatedly) isn’t necessarily the only option although with KS and his two flanking ring walkers you would think it is
He said sorry, he isn’t going anywhere so just accept that.
Labour can now claim benefit for the Lib Dems and SNP windfall tax policy.
