| Played cricket on Saturday, and the 2 umpires stopped the game for 10 mins to walk over to a guy who was sat in his car taking photo's of the game!
We had a couple of "junior" players in our team, but both lads are 17, so at what age do you need parental consent to be able to photograph local cricket/football/rugby matches??

If the land isn't privately owned then I don't think you can stop people taking photographs in such situations, a private land owner can restrict access (so for instance you can still photograph from public land) but there is nothing illegal about taking photographs of children in the UK on public land unless of course that could be construed as 'pornography'. Photos of kids playing sport or just larking about in a park isn't pornography but some people do get a bit shirty over it..

And I hope the bloke told them where to get off, he was doing nothing wrong at all.
I was at a local loch last summer trying out a couple of lenses when a group of schoolkids turned up with a couple of teachers, I was told, not asked told to stop taking photos as there were kids about, they got short shrift too,

Has anybody used or heard anything about www.procamerashop.co.uk ?
They offer a 3% discount if you pay by bank transfer and that got me a bit wary.

The address is a lock up in Carlisle and I wouldn't trust a site like that mate.
At least with eBay you have the Paypal protection.

[iPlease note that this address should only be used for mailing correspondence or pre-arranged returns. We are a solely internet based business and as such do not facilitate the transaction or sale of goods from these premises[/i.
It could be totally legit of course.
But I wouldn't trust it with high value items either - I once had a customer in the Huddersfield area who ran an online camera sales business but they actually had a warehouse there and a sales office and everything you'd expect from a legit business, eventually they couldn't make it pay either, the owner withdrew all of his investment and took it off to Spain where he runs a similar operation without all of the office and warehouse overheads.

Not sure it's still there but there was drinks sign on the side of a building at the crossroads through Drighlington. Will you be publishing all your photos?

Thanks for the info. I've added Drighlington crossroads to the list and will look next time I'm there or thereabouts.
I'll be posting the pictures on my Flickr account providing I can work 'em up to an acceptable standard.

Presumably you have the coal merchants ghost sign on your list, the one opposite the Sandring building on the Burley Road/Cardigan Lane crossroads ?
I'm going to end up editing and re-editing this post
If I was any good at photography some of the old building subjects that I have noted are ...
The old Woodhouse workhouse - stand on Otley Road near the statue at the traffic lights at the junction with Clarendon Rd and look towards Woodhouse - the long brick building facing Woodhouse Moor is the old workhouse, then turn around and get the old Carnegie Library on the junction that is now a bar, then turn back and get the aspect of the hillside of Woodhouse back-to-backs with the old school and its clock tower sitting up proud right in the middle.
Or the back-to-backs that tumble down the hill from Burley down onto Burley Road, I believe some of those streets still have their shared toilet blocks and cobbled roads and there is a famous staircase rise up the hill that has been painted/drawn more than once

The goods are grey imports shipped out of Hong Kong, there is a good chance you'll end up paying £50 in duty and VAT.

Yes, it's on there. Passed it yesterday (for about the 1,000,000th time) but didn't have any gear with me.

I know the building you mean - red brick with castellations on Raglan Road. (You can't live where we lived and not know all about the Charge of the Light Brigade - Raglan, Brudenell, Cardigan et al.) I photographed it a few years ago but didn't know it was an ex-workhouse.

The school is Quarry Mount. When I was at Queens Road (later Royal Park) in the 1950s, Quarry Mount were our fiercest rivals. Even the inter-school cricket matches turned into bloodbaths! Such fun.

Stuart Walton !!! ... I thought everyone had forgotten him.
I have some ltd. ed. prints of Stuart Walton's drawings, including Whitelock's, The Hyde Park Picture House, The Original Oak and one of Dodsworth's Court (seen from this angle www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=4811 ) ... and others ... all bought from an art shop in Upper Briggate whose name escapes me now, as-and-when I could afford them, back in the early 1980's.
You've done it now, I know the "steps" drawing you mean, with the iron banister down the middle, I shan't rest until I get a copy now.
EDIT : A simple google got me his web site www.stuartwaltonart.com/index.htm

Stuart Walton had his own stand in the "Pictures" section of the old Clover building in Kirkstall and also sold prints in Briggate on a Saturday, haven't seen him for ages though.
I have a copy of his Whitelocks drawing, when I say a copy I don't mean its a copy of his drawing, I mean I copied his drawing

I was a big fan and I didn't know either of those facts.
I do remember one guy selling small prints on a Briggate corner but the one I remember wasn't him.

I didn't write the above. But I could have done. Word-for-word.
Among others, I have a signed limited edition printed on heavy canvas-like paper, of Rosebank Road overlooking Burley (a similar scene to one suggested by Jerry Chicken a few posts ago). It cost me more than I could afford when I bought it.

I think I remember the same guy. No Stuart Walton, he; but quite good for all that.
He sold A4 prints of his work in packs of 4 or 5 in brown envelopes quite cheaply. I've still got 'em. Somewhere!
