So we live in a mixed economy; the incremental level of mix is what is under discussion, not whether we should live in a pure free market or a pure "Marxist" one. My tax affairs are so simple that is difficult to fiddle not that I would want to. I claim what are legitimate business expenses - I pay my taxes on time, I pay my VAT on time. I make a good living and as such feel I make a reasonable contribution in the form of various taxes to support those less fortunate than myself. By the way my wife doesn't work for me, my car is my own - I claim mileage, I don't go to a gym and my employees are very contented with their terms and conditions. If you would like some testimonials no problem.

What is very interesting is the rise of the Nu Class the intelligentsia - these are those wedded to government funding/control/regulation in one form or another. More regulation more non-jobs for them. Wrong on both counts. The fiddles that I listed are those I have experienced or am aware of, either as an employee or as my Dad had his own business. I also work with numerous consultants who enjoy those trappings or run their own companies.
I get a fixed salary & pension. No bonus or any other perk apart from statutory sick pay or holidays, ever. I am at work about 45-50 hours a week; when I am not at work I am contactable at all times. I have had 2 weeks off work sick in 20 years; that was following an operation; I worked from home every day of that 2 weeks apart from the the day of the operation.

That would have made a spiffing question on the referendum ballot paper.
