| Total Recall
Just seen it at pictures today and it one of the best films ive seen for a long time.
Whilst keeping the main characters from the original, the plot is slightly different and theres a nice couple of scene's that play homage to the original.
Colin Farrell takes the lead role well, at times it reminded me of a Bourne genre type film and Kate Beckinsdale looks as lovely as ever in it

Thought it was ok, not as funny as I'd hoped. Just seemed to try too hard to play on the 'offensive teddy bear' character, I found the constant swearing and crude sexual references actually spoiled the humour at times, the constant stream of profanity diluted its impact and effectiveness. Smaller doses would have worked better for me. Still, enjoyable enough, and as you say the flash-backs and little jokes were worked well. I'd give it 7/10.
On a side note, in front of us in the queue was an elderly gent and his granddaughter of about 10. They thought it was a nice family film involving a living teddy bear - thank god they were stopped and turned away!
Other films I've seen recently:
- The Hunger Games - thought this wasn't too bad, considering I've not read the books. The young actors did well and the quirky costumes and contrasts in society worked well. Decent, 7/10.
- Battleship - what a ridiculous, cheesey, stupid, laughable film - but oddly enjoyable as a light-hearted alien shoot-em up - and when the plot takes a hysterical turn about 3/4 in it's clear it shouldn't be taken too seriously. As a serious "film", I'd give it 3/10. As a bit of daft entertainment I'd give it 7/10.
- The Devil Inside - promised so much but failed to deliver, with a disappointingly rushed ending. Not particularly scary A fairly interesting plot delivered in an unoriginal manner, could have been done better. 5/10.
- The Cabin In The Woods - where do I start? Knew very little about this film and found myself baffled for the most, until the final climactic portion of the film where everything goes mental and the plot becomes clear. Original concept, well done for what it is. Enjoyed it for the most. 7/10.
- American Reunion - I knew this had been slated in some quarters but for me it delivered precisely what it promised - a reunion of the original characters, now 13 years older, with all the differences that entails. Don't expect the original American Pie and you'll enjoy it. 7/10.

| Quote ="Robbo"Saw The Dark Knight Rises last night and I loved it! Personally I thought it was brilliant, and just as good if not better than the others. I guessed certain bits part way through but there where some things I didn't see coming at all. Catwoman was a great character played really well and she was sexy! It was a bit different to the previous 2 films in some ways i think in that I think the plot was a bit thicker and not just all about seeing Batman just beat everyone up and save the day. =#0000FFI wonder if we will see another film on the back of this involving another character?
This whole trilogy has wiped the floor with any other Batman films imo.'"
doubt it, the film was meant to loosely be based on Knightfall but Batman's own story is much more like The Dark Knight Returns, in that he has a small army of Bat wannabes (the resistance in Gotham's takeover) and Robin by his side (the cop is already Robin, we just don't find out til the end that he was all along) and then he takes over the Batman's legacy like Nightwing in the books and in TDKreturns Batman is old and calls it a day - the running theme throughout the film is anyone can be a hero, anyone can be the batman, it's not just been left to Robin to look after things but to the rest of the people Batman inspired (Gordon etc.). As much as I like Nolan's series I think the series has been brought to an appropriate end and a spin off risks tarnishing the entire series.
I've probably got some wires crossed there as I'm not the most seasoned of readers but yeah, Nolan will know where to call it a day, hope we see a lot more major films from him though!

Never seen Sidnet Lumet's last ever film but seeing as it's getting a Film4 airing this week it'll get a whirl.

Damn good film. I liked the bit with the bet and the prostitutes and the turd on the floor.

| Ruby Sparks..... I enjoyed it, was a good concept for a film and was very well acted....Was definitely not your average rom-com and it certainly gave its viewer plenty to think about both during and after the film..... The ending in some ways was a bit of a cop-out, but if you interpreted the story in a particular way, then it was a logical 'Hollywood' ending.

| Good spot. His new film got good buzz at Venice and Toronto, [iSomething In The Air[/i. If you like [iCarlos[/i, I can recommend [iTerror's Advocate[/i about Carlos The Jackal's lawyer. I'd say it's probably even better than [iCarlos[/i. It's available on Google videos in two parts.

I see Schroeder also directed [iReversal of Fortune[/i which features another 'bad-boy' lawyer in Alain Dershowitz.

If you're interested in him then you might find this interesting as well [i[url=http://www.americanradicalthefilm.com/The Trails of Norman Finkelstein[/url[/i. He had a run in with Dershowitz a few years back that's on YT - Finkelstein versus Dershowitz Part 1. Finkelstein isn't to everybody's cup of tea but I've yet to see somebody who has as good a grasp of the issues holding back progress with Israel and Palestine.

Dershowitz doesn't seem to enjoy the plagiarism accusation.
I see in another clip that Noam Chomsky is equally as dismissive of Dershowitz and highly critical of Israels position.
Watched Lumet's last film yesterday not realising Albert Finney was in it.
I met him many years ago when I was a young buck, in a tailors in Fulham, (Majors) but that's another story.

Certainly the best Daniel Craig Bond flick. I'd say it has the greatest Bond villain ever in it. Javier Bardem puts in an outstanding performance.

| Films iv seen recently:
Looper - wasnt too sure what it was about and didnt go to the cinema intending to watch it, but actually enjoyed it and thought it was a pretty good film.
sinister - compared to other 'horror' films iv seen at the cinema i thought it was good, a little creepy and jumpy but kept me on the edge of my seat more than the likes of paranormal activity does, decent film.
Skyfall - brilliant film. definately the best craig film and is the best bond film iv seen, was such a great film.
i havent seen taken 2 yet which i want to, thought the first one was fantastic but have heard mixed comments about the new one, anybody seen it ?

I thought Taken 2 was ok, but the plot lacked the depth of the first film.

The current trend of dumbing down action films so that kids can see them is rather lamentable. I think the last 18 rated film they had on at Keighley Picture House was Inglourious Basterds.
On another note I went to see Argo last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a feeling it'll be amongst the reckoning when then the Oscars come around.
