| Mine's fooked since it dropped out of my top pocket into a bucket of water yesterday.
It coincided with me wanting a newer one ... so no harm done ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

Or do you want it repairing? Did same with mine (except it was a clean toilet) and cost me £56 for a repair.
I thought it was just my battery that was poor since its little swim, but obviously not.

The difference being you know what and how to turn off stuff that you are not using.

| What apps do you guys run on the Desire HD then? Not put much on it yet TBH. Haven't seen the need for a power management app due to the decent performance I've been getting out of the box.

| Been getting decent battery life from my HD since getting it last Friday though, to be fair, I haven't used it that much however I've had an issue this afternoon - after an overnight charge the battery was still at about 90% until about 2pm this afternoon, then started draining at a ridiculous rate - it was down to less than 10% by 6.
Having looked at the battery usage it appears the Android OS has used 80% of the battery - it has been nothing like that before today. Any ideas? I'll have to do my research in the morning.

| Isn't that common for smart phones? You should just have a charger in the car at work and at home.
Charging it at work so it doesn't cost you in electricity is probably the best bet. Leave it on charge almost all day and it SHOULD last until you get back to work the following day.
Another thing is to turn off feeds, bluetooth, Wi-fi, GPS and even data if you are not using them. There are apps to make switching them off a one button press.
But your issue sounds out of the ordinary. I've looked on the Mrs' phone and my work Android phone and both are around 7% in terms of battery use by the Android OS.

Gensoid - Megadrive/Genesis emulator which works brilliantly. Cannon Fodder on the mobile phone. Work you say boss?
Amazon Kindle - If you've got a Kindle you can read your books on your phone as well.
Movies - Quality app with movie reviews, trailers, news etc.
Reckless Racing - Absolutely brilliant old school racing game. Think the controls of Micro Machines but with rally controls. Really good game.
Ringdroid - Instantly ends all those nights spent searching for that special Rhianna ringtone. Just put the song on your phone and you can cut the relevant section to use as a ringtone. So easy to use.
FlickKick Rugby - Another game I've wasted days on recently. It's a rugby conversion game where you swipe your finger to kick the ball. So addictive, they do it in American Football field goal and football (Soccer) varieties as well.
Sky+ - Lets you view the TV guide like you can on your Sky box, gives you programme information and also set your Sky+ box to record programmes. Great for when you get those "Are you watching .." texts or left the house and realised you forgot to record the Rhianna concert.
Ultimate Guitar tabs - You can search for and view the guitar tabs for all the songs on the internet version. If you play guitar its very useful.

I've been charging overnight since I got it - and after a few charges it was getting me through to bedtime (usually between 11 and midnight) still with 20% or so battery left (wi-fi on while I'm home, 3G on when I'm out) - it's just yesterday when it went a bit power hungry.
I charged last night before I went to bed and having just got up it seems to be behaving itself again, with the OS battery consumption down to it's normal 25-30% level. Can't really work out what was using it yesterday afternoon though.

For the first few weeks with any new phone you should always drain the battery completely (to the point the phone is dead) before recharging.
My Desire will last me a couple of days - I'm not a heavy user - texts, occasional calls, very occasional internet and a bit of gaming on the loo. But I tend to try and still drain it before charging and I've had mine several months.

I've always done that with phones in the past, after reading numerous, conflicting, accounts online of how best to condition the battery when first getting this one I decided not to do anything in particular on this occasion.
My battery seems to be behaving itself again today, used wi-fi for a couple of hours, sent and received about 40 messages and after 20 hours I'm still on more than 50% battery and OS usage is down to what it normally is, so hopefully yesterday's problem was a one off.

Quote ="PTB"No.
Relative to the rest of the market, No.
It might be good enough though, it depends what your needs are…? If you think you are getting a top class smartphone for less than the price of a top class smartphone then, at the risk of sounding blunt, you are not.
If you want to make calls then it will probably do. But you might as well spend less on something which isn't pretending to be something it's not:
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/nokia-1616
At least you know you only spent £12.50 on it.
Or spend more on a smartphone:
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/motorola-flipout
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/ ... curve-8520
I just think that phone would be unsatisfying in all the ways you don't think about until you've got it home and out the box. The feature list is fairly impressive (for £30), but in terms of real world usability it would come up short because of all the compromises made.
It's got a camera that won't take good pictures.
It's got email, wap, Orange Downloads and video download and yet it is limited to GPRS (far slower than 3G).
It's Java™ capable, which is meaningless, because almost all J2ME applications and games are rubbish.
It's got a touch screen, which probably isn't capacitive and unlikely to be very accurate or pleasant to use — not if the whole phone costs £30.
I hope that helps with your decision making.'"
Thanks for that but its not a bad phone after all still get used to the phone itself setting and every thing else on it too, cheap enough aswel only paid £14 for it with my orange fund at orange shop. Free texts and internet for £10 a month cant go wrong with that.
Happy with it so far for the price and just for the record going to send you a link about the phone via p/m please feel free to say what you want once youve seen the link ie not allowed on here

| I've got a similar deal to you on the Desire HD. Admittedly I paid a bit more for the phone. Can't help but feel your going to regret taking a cheaper phone on contract.

| The first app any Android user should download is Advanced Task Killer. You set it to kill all running apps at a regular interval and trust me, if you say you don't have anything running you'll be shocked when you see exactly what is running without you realising!!

Worst thing you can ever do, the new android phones are designed to be great at multitasking so that task killers are not needed.
By using one you will make the performance of the phone worse, as when ever you need to run anything it has to load it from scratch.

Did you read the comments? Many of them say the same as I do, that without ATK installed the battery life is far poorer than with.

As some of the comments on that blog have said, that article is from a programmers POV, the end user sees better battery life killing stuff that they don't need and should have stopped when you closed the program.

| I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Europa on PAYG from phones4u on with a t-mobile sim. As Phones4u say the phones they sell are generic and can use any sim card I tried to get my giffgaff simcard payg to work on it, but to no avail. Have activated my giffgaff sim card through the website, but phone calls cannot be made as it says call barring is on, neither can i send any text messages or use the internet, even after setting up the apn for internet and mms. What's strange is I can use voicemail and even send *100# to check my giffgaff balance. Can anyone who has one of these phone tell me how you can change the messaging centre number? I emailed giffgaff for support and they say there's nothing wrong with my account.
