Surprised me too.
I thought the single most attractive thing for Orange in the T-Mobile merger was T-Mobile's 3g coverage

| my old man's deciding to upgrade to something that hasn't come from Lidl, for some reason he's randomly picked on a
HTC Wildfire, which he can get slightly cheaper as a virgin media customer.
Is it any crack? i don't know much about it, he's not a haevy user either text or calls, its mainly for mother cat to keep tabs on him. The one thing he has expressed an interest in it having, is possibly Sat Nav, does anyone know if it has a reasonable app for that, or any major probs with it?
Cheers

It's not a bad phone mate, hot the highest spec in the world but should do for what your old man wants, Android has Google Maps installed (but you may need to download the free update for it) that can be used as a basic sat nav.

You should be..
Make sure you have your old Nokia at the ready, blue tooth enabled, all contacts and texts are moved over effortlessly. E-mail set up is scarey at the ease of it. Still finding my way around it myself, i'm sure there'll be lots of hidden wonders and probs to overcome untill we get used to it, but first impressions are it is a very good phone, Nokia could be in for a rough ride with this phone and i-phone battling it out.
Speaking of i-phone, that's what Mrs Graftonred has but even she is impressed.

I've had mine nearly a week and not done much with it really. The battery is RUBBISH! So much so i've took a lead into work.

| All Smart Phone batteries are poor.
There is a way to re-calibrate it and make it last a little bit longer but the key is to turn off stuff you don't use all of the time (WiFi for example).
I am due an upgrade in November (already have the HTC Desire) so i will probably go for the HD version unless they bring any different models out between now and then

I've been giving mine some hammer and getting about 15 hours, i don't think it's going to be any worse than my n97 under normal usage.
Just converting some dvds for it, they look very good quality. Quite happy with it so far.

Just got home, it's here but I've had a few too many after work beers so I'll let it charge overnight and turn it on for the first time in the morning - I'll probably need a clearer head and a day to get to grips with it!

Do you want a physical qwerty keyboard or will a number pad do.
I think you might just have to adapt, all the good software is on the phones you describe.
I mean Nokia's stuff will still get the job done, like the X3, E5 or E72.
www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/al ... h-and-type
But after today be hoping aboard a dead end platform.
The Motorola Flipout is certainly different looking. Think it is only on Orange though.

| Engadget got a nice scoop. Prototype Nokia Windows Phones.
Might not come to market exactly like that, but if they did — any takers here?

No.
Quote ="Classy Cas 86"is it any good?'"
Relative to the rest of the market, No.
It might be good enough though, it depends what your needs are…? If you think you are getting a top class smartphone for less than the price of a top class smartphone then, at the risk of sounding blunt, you are not.
If you want to make calls then it will probably do. But you might as well spend less on something which isn't pretending to be something it's not:
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/nokia-1616
At least you know you only spent £12.50 on it.
Or spend more on a smartphone:
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/motorola-flipout
shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/ ... curve-8520
I just think that phone would be unsatisfying in all the ways you don't think about until you've got it home and out the box. The feature list is fairly impressive (for £30), but in terms of real world usability it would come up short because of all the compromises made.
It's got a camera that won't take good pictures.
It's got email, wap, Orange Downloads and video download and yet it is limited to GPRS (far slower than 3G).
It's Java™ capable, which is meaningless, because almost all J2ME applications and games are rubbish.
It's got a touch screen, which probably isn't capacitive and unlikely to be very accurate or pleasant to use — not if the whole phone costs £30.
I hope that helps with your decision making.
