[url=http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/ios-exclusive-problem-families-told--stop-blaming-others-7834235.htmlProblem families told "stop blaming others"[/url
'"
From that report ...
Quote Under government criteria, a troubled family is one that meets five out of seven criteria: having a low income, no one in the family who is working, poor housing, parents who have no qualifications, where the mother has a mental health problem, one parent has a long-standing illness or disability, and where the family is unable to afford basics, including food and clothes. '"
The first three of those criteria plus the last one are usually a direct cause of the other three so in that respect he has got that bit right.
How on earth he is going to "tackle the issue" in an era of high unemployment is beyond me, I'm glad its not me who has to solve the conundrum but the long term unemployed, the mentally ill and the long term disabled are going to be right at the back of the queue in the job centres even when companies start recruiting again, tough words or not.
He freely admits that when he was the leader of Bradford Council he had 1760 "problem families" in the city and presumably there are still 1760 "problem familes" in the city because he didn't have a solution then and frankly he isn't offering one now - what he is doing is waving a flag and beating his 4XL chest for the benefit of "Outraged of Buckinghamshire".

Think Pickles must have picked up Giedeons spin sheet today. Its all the Eurozones fault the state of Britains economy. Makes a refreshing change to hear something other than "the last labour governments fault".

| Now Theresa May says that unless you're [url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/jun/08/immigration-rules-couples-stark-choiceearning more than £25,700 gross, you're too poor to bring your spouse into the country.[/url
So given this government's joined-up thinking, when can we expect Ian Duncan Smith to announce an increase in the minimum wage to £13.38 to reflect May's definition of poor?

That'll be a bit of a blow to the cleaner who cleans around her desk every morning on £7.85 an hour, whether or not that cleaner has a spouse outside or inside the country, makes you wonder how these London Living Wage employees survive really doesn't it ?

Just edited it mate, the original figure was net of tax & NI, the gross figure is actually £25,700, so an hourly rate of £13.38

And this is why I became a British Citizen when I did because I could see things like this happening to me. Its strange that you're deemed rich enough earning £7,500 pa to support a sick loved who cannot work but need £25,700 to support a foreigner?

This is the reality of what is happening. I hope the Ajw71's and Dallys of this country read this and can finally accept what is happening is real, and it is this governments fault, not for Karens death but the way in which she was scared, vunerable and shockingly treated by this government and the shambles that is Atos.
RIP Karen - it will not be in vain.

| Just as a side issue and if anyone was in any doubt as to how desperate the current government are, and how shambolic our tax collection system is, I have this morning recieved a letter from HM Revenue advising me that I owe them (allegedly) £110 dating back to a tax return from 2005, apart from not having a clue whether or not this demand is correct it raises a couple of questions ...
1. They are now obviously scraping right down into the bottom corners of the barrel to try and drag in every last penny that is showing on their ledger as "owed", they've not chased this alleged amount from me before so presumably in the past it was deemed to be either unproven or just not of a large enough amount to bother with.
2. What sort of tax collection system did we have before that would leave amounts outstanding without reproach for seven years and no-one bothered to chase them - can you imagine trying to run a private business with debts going back seven years ?
Its gone in a drawer, I'll wait and see if they send a follow-up letter, its not unknown for them to send stuff like this out on the hope that a percentage will just cough up without question.

The only way they are able to do it now is because of their new software which came online a couple of years ago, to do it previously would have taken millions of man-hours to collate, hence the reason why I never received such a demand during my self employment years from 1984 to 2007.
I'm not questioning the need or the right to do it, simply highlighting the fact that even a few pounds outstanding are now on the radar and also highlighting the absolute inefficiency of the tax system previously, something that most self employed people are well aware of.

I've noticed that they are using debtor collectors to try to collect pathetically small sums (like £100) from company's that always pay them VAT, albeit a bit late. It's a complete waste of paper and therefore money. They are losing the plot. They are simply clueless.

I got my P45 two weeks ago, along with the usual about benefit claiming etc. and how I must start looking for work immediately. Problem was I left that job 14 years ago. Then when I called them to point this out they managed to find another £400 in tax I owed them.
Every year I get a huge tax bill and every year it's wrong and I spend 3 months trying to get them to send my correct tax code to my employer (which they never manage to do untilI've called them at least 5 times). They also sent all our European employees tax information to a guy who left the company a year ago, despite several attempts to update our contact details with them.
They are complete fuknuckckwitts.

I'd disagree and I'd point the finger at politicians of all hues, past and present for the only morsel of sympathy I have for the tax collectors is the facct that almost every year without fail for any number of decades they have had to deal with one politician after another tinkering and tweaking with the rules for their own political gain - often with no regard whatsoever to the economy or indeed how the hell its all going to be administered, just one example of which is the Tax Credit system devised by Gordon Brown - absolutely political, totally inexplicable to or by anyone including the offices who were supposed to be administering it.

I get ESA until September but that will stop because hubby earns over £7,500pa so deemed rich enough to support me, and I get DLA for now, which I happen to get the car and not the money as I can't use public transport. Why do you want to know?

The point appears to be here that those on benefits are struggling to survive on the meager crumbs dished out by the government. So how meager are those crumbs?
My in law on disability is now on his second foreign holiday in the last two months - could be the drug dealing, which his conviction is a matter of public record, is paying for it or it could be his benefits.

I'll ask again then, how did the relevant government agencies (Police for the drug dealing and DWP for the benefits cheating) react when you informed them of your inlaw's activities?
I admit that I didn't think much of you as an individual, based on your previous statements on here but if it is possible, I reckon you've actually gone down in even my admittedly very low estimation of you.
