The reason polygraph tests aren't used as evidence in our courts is that they are so unreliable. On QI, Stephen Fry said that if you clench your cheeks on the control questions you can trick the machine. Dunno if it's as simple as that, but they're certainly not foolproof. I saw use of such a test as a bit of a plot weakness, tbh. Do the CIA really use such an unreliable device?
