Seems a bit spooky I wrote that post yesterday though....

U2 where a decent band up to the Joshua Tree album.
Unforgettable Fire is my favourite.

For the best really, were never close to getting close to what they were in the 1990-2000's
Be remembered for some fantastic songs!

That's true. Iwent to see them on either the 'Boy' or 'October' tour (at my age they all blur into one!) and I used to really like them but I think we can agree they have outstayed their welcome.

| Gutted to hear of REM splitting up, but as others said it is probably the right time. Although I really enjoyed "Accelerate", "Collapse Into Now" wasn't their best and I don't think that it was every likely to be toured anyway.

Yep couldn't agree more.
When Achtung Baby came out in 1991 I was very disappointed with it.
All the albums since have been poor as well.

| Just picked up UB40s debut 'Signing Off' on CD for about £3.
Forgotten how good this album was compared to the dross they produced in later years.
Hope to have Addictive Philosophy's new album in the post tomorrow. If you don't know them, they're a good little punk band from Derby who've been doing the rounds for about 10 years now

Brilliant album. I still listen to it. Forget the bland covers band they became, this and 'One in Ten' were authentic UK reggae.

'Food For Thought' was fantastic.....To a white 10 year old boy in Warrington, it was pretty radical stuff.
It still baffles me to this day how they turned into the bland band they became....At their early 80's breakthrough, they were pretty cutting edge, during a pretty volatile period for British society.

| Got a copy of the Once's album off my mate. The version of the old parlour song "Three Fishers" on it actually leaves me a hollowed out shell of a man. On top of that, there is a great acapella version of Tom Waits' Briar and the Rose.
And while we are on Waits... One month to the new album! AWESOME!

| Did UB40 actually record anything else good, albumwise?
Oh, and Add Phils new album is a bit of a swerveball... hints of ska punk and nods to The Housemartins. A grower, though the production is a little weak maybe.

'Present Arms', the follow up to 'Signing Off' was decent....Has 'One In Ten' on it, the most well known track on it, but if you enjoyed the debut, then you'll probably like it.

| I take it you are all watching the youtube live stream of Rock in Rio 2011 from tonight until the 2nd of October?
Unbelievable lineup to be perfectly honest.
Elton John, Rihanna, Metallica, Coheed and Cambria, Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Shakira, Evanescence and Guns n' Roses.
You just don't get lineups like that over here, lucky Brazilians. Pretty much the whole content of my ipod on there. Riri, Claudio, Shakira, Axl and Amy.
Does it get any better?

Cheers, I only ever heard the dub version of that, and wasn't overly impressed. I'll give it a go.

Why was I in the comedy tent watching Dennis Leary get booed off when His Iggyness of Pop was on the main stage? The one solid memory I have of that weekend was Frank Sidebottom fans throwing stuff at Dennis Leary.

| Well, I'm extremely dissapointed in the new Metallica/Lou Reed song, 'The View'. Seems to be carrying on from Death Magnetic and being a lacklusture album from a band that helped shaped metal today. Hope Megadeths new offering is better ![PRAY icon_razz.gifRAY:](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//eusa_pray.gif)
