Doesn't the server have to be configured for push email? If you were polling my email server constantly you'd find your account locked PDQ, there is no need to pool for new mail (automatically) more that every 15mins.

| it uses activ sync built into the phone to poll the server.
Only ten of us using it so it isn't stressing the server.
It's a common issue by the looks of google

Exchange ActiveSync doesn't use polling. The server notifies the client when new email is available. This puts less load on the server than polling and is why it's called 'push' email ('cos the server 'pushes' the email to the client).

i know. But the phones need to keep the conection open to do that and as soon as the connection drops it never syncs again. The exchange is 2003 if that helps

Huge. The size of the thing put me off, far too big and the mini is tiny. I'd look at the HTC phones, superb devices.

Totally agree, we both have the HTC Desire and it's a seriously clever bit of kit.

Superb phone and not actually as big and annoying as you would think. Definitely recommend.

| After a bit of advice.
I had a company call me up and offer me a new deal for my phone.
I get a new phone, 1000mins a month on roll over. 2000 texts a month.
All this for £15 a month. It would be on a business contract with orange.
They also said they would send me a cheque for £35 a month.
Anyone ever had a deal like this and are they any good, or is it a con that i should keep well clear of.

So they're giving you a phone , 1000mins and 2000 texts, and net 20 quid a month? Sounds like a somewhat dubious way to turn a profit. ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

| Right, reckon I'm going for the HTC Desire or Wildfire (depending on what contract I can get). What do peeps think of these??:
[url=http://www.mobiles.co.uk/Mobiles.co.uk[/url are making some good offers:
- decent offers on the [url=http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-desire.htmlDesire[/url with 15 months half price (redemption) 300 mins, any network anytime, unlimited texts, Push email + 500MB data on Orange - for £25 a month.
- 16 months free (repemption), or £140 Auto Cashback, or Free Nintendo DSi, or Free Jawbone Headset [url=http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-wildfire.htmlon the Wildfire[/url: same tariff with Orange: 300 mins, any network anytime, unlimited texts, Push email + 500MB data - for £25 a month.
I'm currently with O2 and will try and negotiate with them but their upgrade offers weren't great.

Think I fancy the Desire, not much difference to the Wildfire but the reviews rate the AMOLED screen much better than the Wildfire, plus with my thick clumsy thumbs a bigger screen is a bonus.
Anyone know just how much 500MB data allowance will give me? I won't use tinternet that much - poss for Sat Nav occasionally, and occasional light browsing.
For £25 a month, can't complain.
That said, didn't really want a touchscreen but the keyboard options are pretty naff until the Blackberry Torch (touchscreen & slide) comes out, and I doubt the tariffs will be as competitive, and doubt the phone will be free for the most part.

Install 3G Watchdog, that will keep an eye on your data use.

My brother has the Desire on that contract. He's had absolutely no complaints with it thus far and from what I've seen it's a seriously nifty bit of kit.

Apologies if I sound daft here, but does this mean it's £12.50 for 15 months, then the remaining 7 it goes back to £25? Sounds like a bargain if that's the case.

basically you pay the full £25 a month for the full period, but at certain time intervals in the contract you have to send your bills back to them and they send you a cheque for the money they owe you. However, from what i hear they make it so hideosly complicated to send it back at the right time that you need a first class degree in mathematics to work out when to send them back. For example you have to send the 1st and 4th bills back on the third tuesday of the 5th month, except when that month has a J in it when its the fourth thursday or when it has 30 days in the month when its the 3rd sunday, except when its a leap year when you have to send the 2nd and 3rd bills back by carrier pigeon.
If you get one wrong, you lose the full amount you are entitled to.

That's about right!! For example the full details on the contract I'm considering are [url=http://www.mobiles.co.uk/18-24-month-contract-five-stage-cashback.htmlhere!!![/url
Once you get your head round it it's not too bad, but then you have to remember to sort it out every other month or so and retain all your bills. I wonder what the take-up rate is?? That said, the monthly tariff is such a good deal I wouldn't be that fussed.
Unfortunately I've now stumped myself - I've taken a look at the [url=http://www.mobiles.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s.htmlSamsung Galaxy S[/url, which seems to have a better 'Super AMOLED' screen than the Desire and in the tests I've seen performs better with games/TV/films with a higher frames-per-second rate, and has that nifty 'swype' typing facility. The same tariff is on offer....help!!!!!!
