I am looking to buy a digital camera as we are expecting our first child in July. I was after some advice as to what sort of camera I should be looking for. I'm not after anything flashy something that is easy to use and produces a decnt picture. Any help much appreciated, cheers.

Out of interest Trace, did you go on the night walk session with a studio. I did one last month and had a really good time.

What style of camera do you want?
What is your budget?
Do you have a smartphone if so what?

Been looking at a Canon Powershot A3300 IS.
Just a slimline digital that I can point and click and get a decent image from.
Around about the £100 mark.

I have absolutely no idea about what I should be looking for at all. I have only owned 1 digital camera before and that was roughly 8 years ago.

Not a bad camera to be honest, buttons aren't too small which is good.

Have a look at the Panasonic Lumix FS16 and Nikon Coolpix S3300 too, not too much between them and I'd go for what ever feels best when you hold it.

i ve got thousands of my pics on my comp.anyone know who does the cheapest deals to turn them into proper photos??
i m a tight git, dont want to pay more than 10p per pic.

I doubt you'll pay more than 5 or 6p. Photobox are about that kind of price for standard sizes, possibly lower once you get into the kind of volumes you're talking about.

It's not something I do much of though so I'm not sure where the real deals are.

If you have thousands, buy a Kodak ESP series printer, they come with a set of inks (full) and they cost less than £20 a set to replace

Not really an option for doing thousands or prints though is it? And even ignoring the cost of the printer, it ain't gonna be 5p a print, more like 20p or more.

I print most of my own, but there aren't thousands, and I think home printing is more about wanting control over the finished image at the expense of higher cost.

Cheers for that. Had a look at them all but think I have now settled on a Canon IXUS 115 HS.

In your opinion/situation maybe, however it's useful when taking shots in RAW mode, it takes an unfathomable amount of time taking 13mb shots (and I'm not confusing that with mp) with a low speed card.
Also exactly how much video time do you need? 8gb is plenty fine for most people, certainly in cameras that take HD film footage it's more than enough. I'd rather have the 50% increase in speed with a smaller card than pay more for something that I know I'll rarely use all the capacity in one go.

I bloody well have, there I was, sun in my eyes, gaily strolling along past City hall, full of the joys of spring. I'd just lifted my hand up to shade the glare of the sun when I stepped into this huge puddle, I spent the next 20 mins doing a 'squelch, squelch' and leaving wet footrpints like a bloody Yeti, and the shoes are fscked now

I haven't done much in the way of photography recently as I've had to do some work.

Lovely day and I finished early so went out in the garden to find something to work the macro lens a bit.

I found this fearless wasp that wasn't much bothered about having it's picture taken.
