| Quote ="cod'ead""Recounts will only be allowed at a local level and only on the basis of concerns about process, not the closeness of a result, according to Elections Scotland.
It is up to local counting officers to decide whether to request a recount - but only after they have given the provisional total to the chief counting officer.
[uThere is no provision in law for a national recount.[/u"'"
It would be interesting to see how that process would stand up to an incredibly close result, say a NO vote by a few hundred.
Would it be a case of "Skip the recount go straight to the legal challenge"?
They would probably have to quell the riots first though.

| As someone who is utterly sick and tired of being governed by an establishment based in London operating for the benefit of the City of London and corporate interests in tow with corruption and financial spivvery, I'd be voting YES at the first opportunity if I had the chance.
If Scotland do vote YES, can they please take the North of England with them? Please? Pretty please?
The polls suggest a close vote in favour of NO but that would still be a huge kick in the teeth for the establishment and not nearly enough of a mandate to dominate Scottish affairs from afar.

Alex Salmond is only marginally less vile than his Tory counterpart. And some of his cronies in the SNP are plain bonkers. It wouldn't be as much of a trade-up as many seem to think.

| Well I'm booked for a site visit to Grangemouth at the end of this month so hopefully the English Home Office will have their border checkpoints in place by then, I'm looking forward to not being let back in.

| Just watched Gordon Brown on SKY give an awesome performance at a NO rally. Talk about a transformation! Gone was the tired figure we saw leaving Downing St, and in its place was a totally reinvigorated man.
This was an old style barn storming Labour Politician, giving it the full monty of blood and thunder......and I have to say, I was more than a little impressed! Michael Foot would have been proud. And if that doesn't convince the waiverers, then nothing will.
Which kinda begs the question...why was that very nice, but very straight middle class chappie Alistair Darling ever allowed to publically debate with Salmond? Who is simply Rab C Nesbitt in a suit, and kicked the out of Darling a couple of weeks ago, and got the YES campaign back on track.

But the former PM is an idiot, apparently.
The 'NO' campaign wanted Tony Blair to travel up there and make a couple of speeches on their behalf but then they started to realise the Scottish are sick to the back teeth of Tories.
Anyway, he's far too busy solving the problems in the Middle East.

He has the freedom to make mistakes now (not that he didn't make mistakes in No 10), he's also not following in the shadow of a gormless beaming muppet.
Whoever takes over from Cameron (assuming someone does) will suffer the same thing, charisma is not a replacement for honesty, ability principles.
Salmond has no policy other than to "biff the English and give them a bloody nose"

Correct.
That was his problem as opposed to the incumbent before and the one after.
He wasn't capable of whoring himself like that pair.

Socialism seemed to work pretty well when it was required to bail out the capitalist banking system in 2008.
But that's always the case with capitalism: privatise the profits and socialise the loss, a quick look at East Coast Trains should help you there

The vast majority of Scots voters on both sides of this referendum would obviously prefer to be governed by anything other than the party that currently holds sway in the UK presently though.

Even the Lib-Dums and their conservative leader won 11 seats.

No need to be vocal to vote, just put your X on a piece of paper. You can do it in secret too!
Within my lifetime the tories have held the majority of seats in Scotland, they just watched them all dwindle away to one

| Any Scots who think Salmond is a socialist are in for a very rude awakening.
He views TTIP as a "massive opportunity for Scotland", all they need do is look at how he bent over while Donald Trump dry-bummed him. He's already been called out over his lies on safeguarding the NHS.
Wee Eck is an obnoxious little upstart but I can't blame Scots for swallowing his rhetoric, we've got plenty South of the border who are falling for Farage's bollox too

| Think I'll tune into the Jon Snow hosted live debate at 10pm on C4 tonight.
Michelle Mone is a panellist so it'll make one of our Sin-Binners happy.
Guardian 2010 profile quote on Mone is fairly amusing -: ''she grew up a Scottish Labour voting Protestant and is now a Conservative voting Catholic who David Cameron invited to come and address his cabinet.''

I fully agree with you. As a critic of Gordon Brown in his previous roles I openly doff my cap to his passionate and effective intervention on behalf of the Better Together campaign. Under the timid leadership of Darling and Alexander the No campaign had never got out of first gear and it needed Buster Brown to shoulder charge his way to the front and give it some much needed momentum and challenge the lies that Salmond and co have been spouting about the National Health Service in Scotland. I hope it was not too late!
