Sorry if you have already gone over this but on the iphone 4g, the 'Facetime' is that just video or is it full sound as well as video?

For those of you that are waiting for the 2.1 update for the HTC hero on orange, the first part of it has been released today.

Change the date on your phone (i just changed the year to 2011) which will prompt your phone to check for updates. You should then get the 1st part of the update.

not sure when the 2nd part will come along which does most of the changes (the 1st part is mainly just a pre-update patch) but it must be soon.

Android 2.2 for the Desire is very good, phone is much quicker now

I'm thinking about getting that when my contract is up, but it's not for a while yet so i wil see what is out at the time.

Just rang up to upgrade my contract, getting the Wildfire I was going for the Desire but apparently it's coming to the end of it's life and the Wildfire is the new Desire. Should be here Friday!

I preferred the Wildfire after looking at both phones in the shop anyway, £15 cheaper on the contract and much smaller/lighter phone. Does the same job and it's the newer version. Plus there wasn't any in stock in the shop and was taking three weeks to be delivered.

It does seem to have got decent reviews.

It has, hasn't it. I looked at quite a few after I visited town on Sunday and it did seem to get the thumbs on most reviews. I think the only major differences are it's slightly smaller, the menu buttons are touch screen rather than buttons and it's processing power is smaller than the Desire but it still runs at a decent enough speed. Seems to be the alternative to the IPhone4's ridiculous prices. Should be here Friday so I hope to report back with some good news.

Main difference are, the wildfire has half the processing power, it also has a smaller poorer quality and lower resolution screen.

These are major things on a smartphone.

However i dont think you can go wrong with the Android operating system although I'm not sure if the wildfire is in line to be updated to 2.2

How long after changing the date did the update come onto your phone?

I know it runs at half the processing power, not really a big issue for me as it still runs at a decent speed. I don't think that will be a problem. As long as I can see what I'm doing that's good enough for me, plus it's smaller and lighter too.

Yep, can't use it over 3G. Which means apart from home and the likes of pubs and McDonalds (who wants to see a video of someone stuffing themselves?), its only use is in hotels which offer free wi-fi.

Which, given the choice, I'd use a laptop and webcam, vastly cheaper option.

Funny how some are claiming it to be innovative, of course video calling is brand new and an Apple invention...my old Sony Ericsson had a camera for video calls....but that isn't an iPhone so its "cool".

I'll give you that mate. I've heard only good thing about Android phones, I don't see the point in paying £150 or so for the handset and £50-£60 a month contract

I must admit I don't get that at all. The whole point of mobile phones is that you can get a call from her indoors saying 'where are you' and reply 'I'm working late in the office' without her being any the wiser because she doesn't know where the phone is.

But a video call which allows her to see the pub in the background …

Harumph. Welcome to the row I had with 3 a few years ago. The new handset I wanted was FREE on every cheaper contract on all other network providers, however in order to upgrade to it on 3 they wanted my new contract to contain x number of video calling minutes for £per month, or I'd have to pay so much per month towards the handset. I never used video calling so why should I be forced to take video calling, or pay for a handset that was essentially "free" on other providers?

I know they're not "free", you do pay for the phone over the length of contract, but it was the principle.

I'm just into month 13 of my second 18 month contract with O2 as a result!
