Good point. Bloody ingredients labels, eh?
Mind, that would still be a high level of meat given the price and the prices/meat percentages of the other versions.

| From an email that's doing the rounds:
A woman has been taken into hospital after eating horse meat burgers from Tesco
Her condition is said to be stable
Not entirely sure how Tesco are going to get over this hurdle.
Waitress in Tesco asked if I wanted anything on my Burger.
So I had a £5 each way !
Tesco Quarter Pounders: The affordable way to buy your daughter the
pony that she's always wanted!
had some burgers from Tesco for my tea last night....
I still have a bit between my teeth
Tesco are now testing all their vegetarian burgers for traces of unicorn
Anyone want a burger from Tesco? yay or neigh?
"I've just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer...AND THEY'RE OFF"
I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse....."
Tesco now forced to deny presence of Zebra in burgers, as shoppers
confuse barcodes for serving suggestions.
A cow walks into a bar. Barman says 'why the long face?'
Cow says 'Illegal ingredients, coming over here stealing our jobs!'
I hear the smaller version of those Tesco burgers make great horse
d'oeuvres.
These Tesco burger jokes are going on a bit. Talk about flogging a
dead.. NO! NO NO NO!
Said to the Mrs these Tesco burgers given me terrible trots
To beef or not to beef.
That is equestrian
Is it a coincidence that HAMBURGERS is a anagram of ....SHERGARS BUM

I'm sure the amount of horse eaten will be "minute" - given the cutback portions they give kids at school these days.

Depends on the school.
I was shadowing a school cook in Shorpe a few weeks ago and the portions were very generous.
Unlike in this situation, however, it was all cooked from fresh ingredients, on the premises.

You don't think you observing could have influenced portion sizes?

Wouldn't eat out at the weekend if I were you:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... emeat.html
Mind you, we've eaten out 3 times last night - twice at seafood restaurants luckily. Last night, wild boar - wouldn't have thought they'd bother with horsemeat there (at least I hope not). Mrs D had "lamb" though.

| Anyway, I suggest everyone shops at Morrisons who, as far as I am aware, are the only big supermarket not yet implicated, on account of their local supply philosophy.

I'd be perfectly happy to eat out at a restaurant where I knew the ethos was about local, quality produce, etc. And there are a few of those out there – although they are not chains.

Morrisons are, currently, coming out of this rather better than any other supermarket chain – although I would not expect to see Booths implicated, but then they're not a nationwide group.
The other thing to do, of course, is shop at independent, local shops – proper butchers, for instance.

Quite.
And I say that despite living within three miles of the (licensed) horse abbatoir whose owner was arrested yesterday.
We shall see just whether he was guilty of anything but, last year, he slaughtered the grand total of 44 horses ... out of the 9000 slaughtered in the UK.
The supermarkets are coming through this "relatively" unscathed, almost as victims rather than stupid accomplices.

| Maybe more horses were in fact slaughtered, but by genuine mistake the slaughterman, who should've gone to Specsavers, mistook them all for cows, and labelled the meat accordingly as an honest error?

Well, he did/does have the contract for removal of put-down racehorses at Aintree(*) ... so maybe fast food was a fitting use for them.
(*) True actually.

Certainly not matey.
The 5lb of mince got seperated into five portions before freezing.
They will come into play indiviually for the likes of a lasagna, spag bol, shepherds pie (see how I've leaned it's not cottage ) , and my favourite, a large deep filled Yorkshire pudding with assorted tenderly boiled vegetables.
