So basically borrowing and taxing?
Labour ruined this country a few times, I hope I don't see a Labour PM again in my lifetime.
They all need a kick up the backside and to get on with what people voted for, even if I personally think it was the wrong decision.

Basically not, no - read the manifesto; this stuff was fully funded, and polls showed that many of the radical policies were supported by the public.
Forget ye not, that the national debt has increased by £1 trillion under this government - so hardly the fiscal discipline that the Tories like to crow about.
As I've said before, your analysis is very simplistic - the HoC reflects the fact that Brexit is far from a straightforward prospect; we could do a very soft Brexit, and still argue that the referendum has been honoured, since it only offered a binary choice, without any actual facts about what Brexit would mean - largely, it now seems, because the people responsible for it hadn't considered any details beyond the made up ones they used in their campaigns.

I agree with you to a point.
However, when our Prime Minister is in talks with other world leaders, it's important that they not only know their stuff and fight our corner but, that they also appear statesman like.
Yes, we live in a world of "style over substance" but, nevertheless, if you want to be taken seriously, then image is critical.
Of course, over the long term, everyone finds out what type of person is underneath the façade and we would all rather have the "real McCoy" but, if you dont "fit in", you are putting yourself behind the rest unnecessarily.

I am fairly confident other countries & world leaders are not as class obsessed & snobbish as we in the UK. They will very quickly pick up the quality of a person from their character rather than their suit. I am sure Angela Merkel only got where she has today by her keen eye on the latest fashion trends and her Imelda Marcos like shoe collection.

She may not have the Marcos shoe collection but, neither is she trying to look like Citizen Smith.
Even Major was ridiculed for being "grey" and he came from the "tory middle class"
Even Corbyn will have people "looking after" his image and to pretend otherwise is extremely naïve.
Merkel has been a very sharp and measured politician and with the best part of 20 years as leader of her party, there is no doubt that she is an excellent leader of both party and country, although she does appear to be reaching the end of the line.
Moving on, the talk seems to be of a snap General Election which will necessarily mean putting forward candidates for The European Elections and stumping up a huge wedge to the EU, which isn't going to go down to well with the ERG.

What the bloody hell are you on about, Citizen Smith?! He wears a suit at work like every other politician; and when he's door-stepped, he wears civvies like a normal person - which seems funny when it's Boris Johnson, but is somehow an indicator of Corbyn's lack of credibility?
As for being sharp for 20 years - I see Corbyn being on the right side of the majority of big issues in his long career as a politician; I'll take that over a Gucci suit any day of the week.

Love this posting, you are the biggest snob, class warrior on this site. Anybody who posts anything on here not to your liking is insulted by you on a regular basis. The usual tired stereotype bilge, daily mail reader, sun reader, racist, xenophobe etc, nut job etc. ref Merkel ,would that be the same Merkel that without consulting the German population let a million migrants into Germany. None of which show any interest in intergrating with the general population.

| At the moment, democracy in the UK provides an intelligent, well read individual with one vote and an idiot who gets their information from the Murdoch press with one vote. So, could there be a case for ensuring people had to pass a written exam before they were allowed to vote?

Problem is every politician worth their salt will be wearing a Gucci suit apart from Corbyn - if you don't think appearance has value you are more stupid than I thought. Appearance is about respect for those you are engaging with - which is why Corbyn got so much stick on 11th November - lack of respect.

Perhaps that why we get the politicians we deserve - because idiots like you place more importance on how someone looks than what they are saying and doing?
He got stick on 11th November for wearing a raincoat, when it was raining - I attended my local war memorial on the same day, with both my kids, and we all wore raincoats - surprisingly, no one was offended.
The reality is that he got stick because the MSM will use any excuse to give him stick, under orders from their off-shore billionaire proprietors - some people allow themselves to be told what to think, but increasing numbers don't.

Bren, IF every other attendee at an event is dressed "properly" and one of them isn't, it's easy for someone to point the finger at them. They know that the press are following their every move, hell, they are "greeted" with paparazzi every morning when they leave home.
Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that the difference in attire is a deliberate choice, perhaps to gain a reaction ??
You are old enough to remember Michael Foot at the cenotaph in his anorak and he just looked scruffy and disrespectful.
Corbyn is no Michael Foot and his image has certainly improved since he became Labour leader but, to suggest that it's all down to the MSM is just naïve.
As for joe public, of course, they can do as they please.
Politicians have to follow the rules or they risk making the front pages, it's their choice.
Back on Brexit, it seems like JRM and Boris have decided that the game is up and we may actually see MV3 getting through.
What an absolute bunch of pillocks we have "running" the country.

Apparently God take us all as we are.
Some would say that he helps us all choose which path to follow and maybe which clothes to wear
Ultimately, getting "pinged" for being boring would be preferable than for being disrespectful and as with everything in life, it all depends who or what you believe.
