Match Report

Wigan had triple cause for celebration at Belle Vue on Easter Monday.

The Warriors over-ran hosts Wakefield, they chalked up their second half-century score of the campaign and Great Britain second row man Denis Betts crossed for his 100th career try.

It was a major personal milestone for Betts on a second front as it marked his return from a six-and-a-half month layoff due to knee surgery.

Betts, who opened Wigan's account after just 58 seconds, said he was delighted to get a full 80 minutes under his belt and finally crack the magical 100. His previous try had come 10 months ago.

Warriors coach John Monie added: "It went well for Denis and us. After Good Friday I was just happy to come here and get the points.

"Things fell away a bit in the second half for us but all credit to Wakefield for a better second 40."

Wigan led 34-0 at half-time after crossing over six times, but Wildcats staged a second-half fightback to score four well worked tries.

The recovery gave Wakefield coach Andy Kelly grounds for optimism, but he accused his players of being over-awed by the Wigan machine in the one-sided first half.

Wigan skipper Andy Farrell bagged 16 points with eight from nine conversions, while winger Paul Johnson scored probably the easiest hat-trick of his career with tries either side of half-time.
