Under 19s v Wigan Under 19s -
Academy Phase 2
2:00pm at Bishop Burton College.
Wigan got off to the perfect start with Oliver Gildart's
third minute try having them 6-0 up and on 14 minutes a try
from Gabriel Fell made it 10-0 with Jake Shorrocks missing
the conversion that time.
Hull had big first team
experience in Callum Lancaster and his try reduced the lead
to 10-4 but before half time Macauley Davies scored a 32nd
Minute converted try for 16-4. Right on half time Shorrocks
kicked a penalty for an 18-4 half time lead.
The home side came out strong early second half and a
second try for Lancaster was followed by a score from Matty
Liggins that reduced Wigan's lead to a nervy 18-14.
Oliver Gildart's try in the 65th Minute gave Wigan
comfort at 22-14 but it didn't last long because Jansin
Turgut soon responded with a try that reduced Wigan's lead
to just 22-20.
Wigan had an almighty sweaty last ten minutes to defend
out but despite Hull's best efforts they couldn't find a
try. They even attempted a penalty for a draw at one point
but it missed and Wigan survived. Sloppy second halves was
becoming a recent bad trait for this side.
