Summary:

Wigan were left with injury problems ahead of this game with Andy Johnson starting the game and Steve Barrow and Matthew Knowles being called onto the bench along with Nigel Wright who hadn't played since the previous September. In rainy conditions, a hard fought battle ensued with only a 25th Minute try from Henry Paul, sent over by Shaun Edwards, troubling the scoreboard at 4-0 half time. The introduction of Craig Murdock off the bench, for a reluctant to leave the field Edwards, sparked Wigan into better action and this contributed to two tries for Rob Smyth in the 50th and 63rd Minutes, the second of which was after a beautiful chip by Murdock. This had Wigan in control and after Nigel Wright's drop goal in the 72nd Minute, Paul's second try wrapped up the win. Saints still remained top though after seeing off Leeds 42-16 at Knowsley Road.
