Summary:l
Wigan ended the season with defeat but the drama for the
league title wouldn't be decided until the Monday Night because the top two
were meeting in the Challenge Cup Final on this Saturday. Halifax won the
cup final then completed the league double with an 11-0 victory away at
Leigh. That result proved regardless anyway because Salford, who needed
Halifax to slip up, lost away at Hull Kingston Rovers to go from possibly
winning the double to absolutely nothing within three days. In Division Two
Keighley and Leeds had won promotion to replace St Helens and Brighouse in
the following season's Division One.
