Summary:l

Wigan had now left the Prescott Street ground and moved to Springfield Park for this season before Central Park opened a year later. Springfield Park would later become home of Wigan Athletic before being closed when the DW Stadium was opened in 1999.

They began their tenure at the ground with a good win over Morecambe.
