Summary:l

Given Wigan had only won 4 out of 24 matches in the season you might have expected this final game of the season to be a damp squib, but this Monday tea time match was hugely anticipated because opponents Broughton would be champions if they claimed either a draw or victory. The Broughton fans actually outnumbered Wigan fans at Prescott Street so it was more like a home game for them. A strong wind provided a big advantage to the toss and Broughton made Wigan face it first. During that half they built up an 11-0 lead and that would win them the league because when it turned round second half, Wigan could only manage two points.
