Wigan took the lead in the 10th Minute with Ernie Aschroft scoring a try and Jackie Cunliffe converting for a 5-0 lead. But Wigan had a poor second quarter of the match and Bradford hit back to lead 10-5 at the break after tries from Hawes and Mageen, one of which was converted by Phillips who also added a penalty goal. Wigan levelled up the match with a 50th Minute try from Roy Williams, converted by Cunliffe. The 10-10 deadlock remained until the 75th Minute when Brian Nordgren made a break. His run was being cut off, so he kicked back inside for centre partner Jack Broome to chase. Hawes looked to have it covered but failed to gather the bouncing ball and Broome pounced to claim the match winning try.
