The Grand End to the League Season but it was "strangely
lacking in excitement" according to one newspaper. Wigan
started the better side in the opening 15 minutes with Jack
Large going close to scoring twice and one try being
chalked off because Jackie Cunliffe was offside.

with Joe Phillips kicking a 20th Minute penalty for Wigan
being offside at the play the ball.
Wigan would soon respond five minutes later. After Ken
Traill had been penalised for holding down Brian Nordgren,
Wigan soon scored with a "fine burst" from Nat Silcock
getting him over. Ken Gee kicked the conversion for 5-2.
Bradford would kick a second penalty before half time
with Johnny Alty penalised at the scrum. 5-4 to Wigan at
Twelve minutes into the second half, Bradford got the
lead back with Alty again penalised and Phillips kicking
for 6-5. Wigan were soon back on the attack but Bradford
hung on to their lead for ten minutes with Gee missing a
penalty and good attack from Alty seeing both Nordgren and
Jack Large held out short.
It was looking like Wigan scoring was inevitable though
and just after the hour, Gee kicked a penalty which put
Wigan back ahead 7-6.
The match was still tight but Wigan had a wet sail and
on 68 minutes, Cunliffe scored a great individual try to
make it 10-6. Bradford still had hope but never looked
close to scoring and Wigan sealed their eight league title
with good work from Alty getting Martin Ryan over for a
last minute try that completed the 13-6 success.
