From this match onward Wigan had to cope without Martin
Ryan, Gordon Ratcliffe, Ernie Ashcroft, Jack Cunliffe, Jack Hilton, Tommy
Bradshaw, Ken Gee and Joe Egan for the rest of the season. They were
to depart on 20th April 1950 for the long Great Britain summer tour to
Australia and New Zealand. In those days, travelling was done by boat and
the season was never shortened to accommodate the tourists.
Brian Nordgren also set a new Wigan record for most tries in a season during
this game when his 62nd try of the season saw him overtake Johnny Ring's 61
