With the third test between England and Australia having
been postponed in December, Wigan were allowed to postpone their match for
the re-arranged date with Martin Ryan, Johnny Lawrenson, Ken Gee, Joe Egan
and Bill Hudson all involved in the test match which Britain won 23-9 to
seal the series 2-1. That luxury however was not afford as England played
another test match on this particular Saturday. The same fivesome were
unavailable as England lost 14-10 to Wales in Swansea. Meanwhile back home,
Wigan still had no trouble beating Oldham despite the absences.
