Wigan build up a healthy first leg advantage to take back to Central Park in this Lancashire Cup First Round - First Leg match at Knowsley Road but it hadn't started great. Saints had built up a 9-2 lead in the first half with a try from Steve Llewellyn and three goals from Jimmy Stott only being responded to with a penalty from Ted Ward. A great try from Ces Mountford, in which he beat Jimmy Lowe for pace and then the challenge of Len Constance, would lead the turnaround that brought Wigan back to 9-9 at half time after Ward added two more goals. Second Half was much better from Wigan and two tries from Les White and one from Billy Ritchie took Wigan into a 24-9 lead before the 70th Minute.
