Summary:l

The 1948-1949 season began with Wigan welcoming Hunslet to Central Park. The visitors finished sixth in the previous season but began this season with their first team players on strike over a wage dispute. So a team of "juniors", signed only on Friday Night via amateur forms, played this game instead and unsurprisingly Wigan hammered them easily. Only 5,000 attended the match.
