Wigan were fully expected to win this Challenge Cup Semi Final against Rochdale at Swinton and although the 11-0 end result looks like a job well done, the Wigan performance was described as an "inglorious victory". Wigan actually laboured to the win with Ces Mountford and Tommy Bradshaw producing little magic. Mountford did start the move that opened the scoring for Wigan in the 20th Minute with Martin Ryan eventually sending Gordon Ratcliffe over. Bradshaw then scored after he raced over on the blind side from a scrum. That was 6-0 at half time and the game was only settled when Ratcliffe claimed a second score by side stepping three defenders to score near the posts. That made an easy conversion for Ted Ward to complete an 11-0 win. 26,004 attended with £4,210 13s gate reciepts.
