Summary:l |
A massive cup Quarter Final between the two sides that
led the league table and also had both been unbeaten in all competition
since Christmas. Warrington took the lead after Martin Ryan failed to defend
a ball and Bevan scooped up to score in the corner. Palin converted to put
Warrington 5-0 up. Ted Ward missed a penalty before Wigan responded with
Jack Hilton committing Bevan in defence before slipping a pass for Ernie
Ashcroft to score for 5-3. Then Wigan took the lead just before half time
with a try from Billy Blan being converted by Ted Ward for a 8-5 lead. They
gifted Warrington the lead back early second half with a loose pass being
returned 60 metres. Knowleden scooped up to send Fleming over and the
conversion from Palin made it 10-8 to the home side. That score looked a
pivotal one but in the 75th Minute, Wigan won the tie with Brian Nordgren's
try making it 11-10 and Ward's touchline conversion meant Warrington needed
a try rather than a goal to win. They found neither. |
