Summary:l

This Lancashire Cup First Round tie was being played over two legs, so Wigan knew they had work still to do after a hard fought tie at Central Park. It was played on a boiling hot day with most of the crowd in shirt sleeves and the ladies "sunburnt" in "gay dresses" according to the press of the time. Wigan took a 5-0 lead with a try from Brian Nordgren, converted by Ted Ward, but before half time Warrington reduced that to 5-2 with a penalty from Helme. It was then 5-5 early second half after Helme scored a try but Wigan found their second try with Tommy Bradshaw throwing a dummy from a scrum to dart over for 8-5. Les White then scored to increase the lead to 13-5 after Ward kicked his second goal. Warrington though found some pressure and tries from Peake and Bevan saw them draw level at 13-13 with Helme converting one effort. It looked to be heading to the return leg level until Ken Gee ensured Wigan would go to Wilderspool with a slender 16-13 advantage.
