Summary:l

A terrible winter and a ban on midweek sport still not being lifted since the war meant that the climax to the season began a month late. Leeds had knocked Wigan out of the Challenge Cup at Central Park earlier in the season but their was to be no repeat in this Championship Play Offs Semi Final. Wigan had to defend the first half with a strong wind and the sun in their eyes but they eventually took the lead after 20 minutes. Good work by Joe Egan set up the position before quick hands saw Johnny Lawrenson score in the corner. Ted Ward converted for 5-0. Wigan then got help from the referee when Leeds prop Wheatley was sent off for punching Jackie Cunliffe. Amazingly though, Leeds responded before the break with a try from Batten that made it 5-3 at the interval. The man advantage would count heavily for Wigan in the half hour after half time. First good combination between Egan and Ken Gee sent Frank Barton over with Ward converting for 10-3. Egan then sent Gee racing on a big run and the defence couldn't stop him. Ward missed that kick but would convert when Jack Blan sent Brian Nordgren over for 18-3. Wigan's final try saw Ces Mountford and Ward combine to get Johnny Lawrenson over for 21-3. Leeds would get consolation efforts from Clues and Cornelius but the send off had already made their task far too difficult.
