The pitch at Salford was in great condition and this
helped Wigan enjoy a good run out on Easter Monday. Wigan led 16-5 by half
time after tries from Stan Jolley, Ernie Ashcroft, Johnny Lawrenson and Jack
Blan. Salford responded with a try from Higgs and a penalty from Rodgers but
didn't trouble Wigan in the second half despite an improved effort. Ces
Mountford scored a "brilliant" Wigan try to complete a good 21-5 win.
Elsewhere, Warrington and Widnes both won to keep the heat up on Wigan at
the top but fourth placed Leigh lost at home to Featherstone. Such was the
crowd disgust on that game that the referee had to leave the ground by
