Summary:l

Having lost at home to Leeds in the Challenge Cup the previous Saturday, Wigan were now shocked by Saints in the league that  league leaders Wigan with this derby victory that was settled pretty much by half time. It was an ill timed defeat also with Warrington and Widnes, below them in the table, playing each other but Widnes winning 4-2 at least meant Wigan remained top despite their loss.

Half Time:l Wigan 5 St Helens 12
Attendance:l 30,000
