Summary:l

Wigan had lost the Lancashire Cup and Challenge Cup Final in this first post war season so this was a chance to redeem themselves in the Championship Final against Huddersfield at Maine Road in Manchester. For the first half hour, Huddersfield were the better team. They dominated the scrummages but only had a penalty goal from Bawden to show for it. Brian Nordgren had kicked a penalty for Wigan before a try from Ernie Ashcroft had Wigan 5-2 up by the break.

Bawden kicked a second penalty to make it 5-4 after half time but a second try for Cunliffe put Wigan 8-4 up and they never looked back from that. Later Jackie Cunliffe scored to seal it with Nordgren converting to complete a 13-4 success which completed Wigan's fifth league championship.
