Wigan "peppered" substitute St Helens Full Back John King in this Lancashire Cup Semi Final and found joy when Jack Fleming opened the scoring in the 10th Minute. Saints were looking more the dominant side but wasted opportunities with a knock on from Bill Fishwick and pass to Jim Myers blowing tries. Wigan punished those wasted chances with a second try from Jack Fleming that was converted by Martin Ryan for a 8-0 lead at Half Time. That was extended early in the second half when Frank Tracey's kicked for Saints went straight into the hands of a grateful Fleming who sent Ted Toohey over and it was now 13-0 after Martin Ryan converted again. The tie was now settled but Wigan found a fourth try for Joe Egan with another Ryan conversion making it 18-0. Saints did managed to score eventually but it came from Jim Myers in the last minute.
