It sounds mad when your 16-4 down with 81 seconds to go but had the passing stuck right on the hooter then Dom Manfredi would have had a good shot at scoring to give Harry Smith a shot at forcing extra time, instead an error led to an intercept for Adam Swift to score for Hull.

That summed the match up for Wigan. So many individual mistakes that are simply not good enough in a match of this magnitude.

Coach Adrian Lam decided, in the wake of suspension to Tony Clubb, to draft Liam Byrne into start the game and he sadly responded with two poor errors in the first ten minutes, the second of which was punished for a Hull try.

That came after Wigan had taken the lead with Jake Bibby scoring in the right corner on 10 Minutes but the conversion was missed, so only 4-0.

Then the Byrne error was quickly turned into a soft crash ball try for Chris Satae under the posts that Marc Sneyd converted for 6-4 to Hull. Wigan's lead had evaporated in just three minutes.

Then in the 21st Minute a set restart was quickly followed by a penalty conceded by Liam Farrell, a soft swinging arm but a swinger nethertheless. Sneyd kicked for 8-4. Then a kick out on the full further added to the litany of errors.

Wigan did soon have a good spell in the game but just couldn't find the way over the try line but at 8-4, it wouldn't have been too bad to get a penalty goal out of it for 8-6 on 32 minutes. However, Zak missed a perfectly kickable shot by hitting the posts and all that effort was wasted. Hull even went down to 12 men for ten minutes but Wigan never took any advantage of it.

Into the second half and poor discipline gave Hull two more shots at goal in the 54th and 56th Minute but only the second was kicked for 10-4 to Hull.

Wigan had another good spell of territory after that but couldn't find the try they needed to pressure Hull. Instead up the other end an error from Bevan French gave Hull the position to carbon copy their earlier try with Satae crashing over and Sneyd converting for 16-4.

I didn't think Hull were playing that well themselves but they had a bit more composure and when you see Hardaker kicking out on the full for a second time you just know that this is just a really poor display all round.

Wigan did rally late as they always do and found a consolation try from Dom Manfredi, playing for the first time this season off the bench, who touched down a neat chip over by French but it was far too late in the day.

Hull deserved the victory but it was an effort of brawn rather than style. These tactics worked on Wigan, especially in wet weather, with Adrian Lam's side left with deep reflections and plenty to ponder.
