Report:

Everything that was wrong against Hull KR last week was right here on this trip to Perpignan, a superb response on both sides of the ball.

The first crowds since lockdown saw a restricted 5,000 in attendance (at least 3 Wigan fans out there that I know of) and Wigan rose to the challenge in magnificent fashion.

They gave old boy Lewis Tierney a nightmare in defence down our left with an early Oliver Gildart try making it 4-0 with Hardaker failing to convert.

Most impressive in this win was how Wigan soaked up long defence before finding two tries to extend that lead.

They survived a spell of three drop outs forced and two penalties conceded for offside before doing more damage on that left side with Bevan French finishing despite the pass from Joe Burgess being behind him. Hardaker converted that for 10-0.

Then Joe Burgess claimed his fifth try in five games this season by returning a poor error from Sam Kasiano on 36th Minute. Hardaker converted for16-0 before adding an excellent 40 metre penalty off the post right on half time for 18-0.

Catalan game out strong second half and at least now for them they had Isreal Folau, Sam Tomkins and James Maloney showing some signs but despite a sin binning to Joe Greenwood, Wigan soaked up the defence again and came out up the other end with a second try for Joe Burgess making it 22-0 despite the kick missing.

That deflated the local side. They had been belted and rattled by a superb Wigan effort up the middle with Joe's Greenwood and Shorrocks excellently backing up the experience starters of Liam Farrell, Sam Powell and Willie Isa alongside Oliver Partington and Ethan Havard.

Even an injury to Joe Bullock wouldn't stop Wigan whilst George Burgess was clearly still struggling with that hip.

Catalan still tried to find a score but Wigan always looked in dominant control and sealed the result with Sam Powell spinning out of a tackle to claim sixth try in 10 matches this season. Hardaker converting for 28-0.

Thoughts turned to nil but two late consolation tries to Julian Bousquet and Fouad Yaha saw that avoided but given the match was played in 33 degree heat for the most part it would be harsh to criticise that.

This was an excellent display, a standard setter that showed they do have title winning potential but consistency is now also key. It'll mean little if it's not backed up in next weeks cup tie.
