Match Report

How disappointing to see Wigan 16-0 down within quarter of an hour and the match practically already lost. Fair enough to get back to 18-16 down was a good effort but this awful attack continues to be mightily frustrating to watch.

Dan Sarginson throwing a lazy pass into touch on the half way line set an early poor tone and I just found that showing really painful to sit through if Iím honest and I know a lot of fans are in the same mind-set.

The reason for that is because this isnít a one off. Chronic slow starts have been a problem all season, highlighted by the fact that Wigan have scored ten or less at half time in THIRTEEN of their sixteen matches this season and bear in mind one of those three exceptions was the cup tie at Dewsbury.

Here tries from Marc Sneyd, Steve Michaels and then that sloppy pass allowing Scott Taylor to cross made it 16-0 in 14 minutes and Sneyd added a penalty goal on 23 minutes for 18-0.

Wigan introduced Sam Tomkins off the bench for his second debut and he sparked Wigan into some life with a try from Oliver Gildart reducing the lead to 18-4. Wigan couldn't find another before half time though.

The second half saw a much better Wigan effort and tries from John Bateman and then a nice finish from Tomkins himself got Wigan back to 18-16.

Twenty minutes still remain and it looked like the momentum was all with Wigan but a breakaway try finish by Jamie Shaul broke Wigan's backs and a further try from Fetuli Talanoa completed a well deserved 30-16 win for Hull.
