Barrow's Bill Burgess (Senior) was playing in his 464th and final match after 16 years with the club. Sadly for him, Wigan spoiled his finale with Lancashire Cup progression. His son went on to play for Barrow in the 1960s incidentally. Despite moving to London, Highfield remained in the Lancashire Cup because the draw had taken place in May prior to their move having been finalised. This win saw Wigan progress to the Semi Finals after having drawn the Second Round Bye for the second season in a row.
