Summary:l

This was a "surprising Wigan team" apparently with them naming last season's New Zealand tourists Benny Davidson, Eddie Dowdall, Lou Brown and Len Mason - three of whom were making their debuts. This led to Wigan being know as a "team of nations" during this era. Despite this win on the opening day, newspapers didn't seem that impressed with Wigan's start.
