The verbal knifes were out on Wigan after this miserable loss away at Leeds. It just so happened as well that the cup draw, held on the Monday prior to this match, would see a repeat of this league fixture a week later. Wigan actually had a 2-0 lead with a Jim Sullivan penalty goal but Leeds had got up to 13-2 at half time and it got no better for Wigan second half. Meanwhile Swinton's 11-5 loss at Hull KR saw them lose top spot for the first time since 4th December. St Helens Recreation became the new league leaders.
