Wigan rested Jim Sullivan, Attie van Heerden and Danny Hurcombe for this trip to Hull and it backfired. But with a massive lead at the top of the table, it mattered little. They opened the score from a Johnny Ring try but Sol Oakley, making his debut at full back in place of Jim Sullivan, failed to convert. Stone then scored a hat-trick for them to send Wigan to their first defeat since January 19th at Broughton.
