Farrar played for Wigan in the 1992-93 season and has returned as assistant coach to Denis Betts. He has been given the specific job of coaching defence.

He said: "I have very fond memories of my time at Wigan and I've kept in touch with people such as Denis Betts, Phil Clarke and Dean Bell, while I regularly bump into John Monie back home in Australia.

"It's long been an ambition of mine to come back to Wigan and when the opportunity arose I jumped at it."

"I've turned down chances in Australia while clubs over here have shown an interest, but it was always Wigan for me. I wouldn't have joined any other British club."

"Defence is my specific job and this is an exciting challenge for me."

Well lets hope he improves our defence. At home last year we can batten down the hatches and get a good result but last year away from home our defence was woeful. I feel the key thing is making the team mentally strong enough to not buckle under pressure away from home. Achieve that and we will have something to work on.
